Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identified the early stage of dementia patients¡¯ experience in their illness process and derived substantial theory.

Method: Data were collected through the in-depth interview of 4 male and 1 female early stage of dementia patients and analysed through the grounded theory methodology.

Result: While the early stage of dementia patients were conscious of change of cognition they felt fear and then shrank up. But they told about own sickness to other and had the will and try to beat the sick. Like this steps they experienced expectancy in the affirmative or breakdown in the negative as a result of recoil.

Conclusion: They were regarded dementia patients as not enough to recognize their illness, but in this study revealed that they recognized their change. The specific strategy to the early stage of dementia patients that based on the psychosocial intervention is needed in the nursing practice.
